First Post, yo.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." -George Santyana

We talked a lot in class about this quote and how if you don't remember something that happens it will most likely happen to you again without you knowing. For example, I have a condition where if I don't sleep, or drink enough then I'm bound to just randomly pass out. I know, it stinks, but it's happened so many times that I'm able to catch the symptoms before I actually fall. If I didn't pay attention to these symptoms, then it would just keep happening without me knowing until it happens. It's the same way with the Holocaust. I'm sure some survivors tried their hardest to block that horrid event from their memory, but look at the world now. In some countries it's the exact same it was 70 years ago. We always talk about it, but we just talk about how terrible it is without even paying attention to why we really talk about it. We never wanted that to happen again, but we're just listening and not actually doing anything. It's important for students to learn about the Holocaust so we have realization of why we need to keep it from happening more and more.
